Astorga - Part 3

The last stop of our visit, and our meeting point, was the cathedral. Construction on the cathedral began in the late 1400's but was not completed until the 18th century. The building itself reflectins several different architectural styles, including elements of Romanesque, Gothic and Baroque design.

Astorga - Part 2

The next stop on our visit to Astorga was the Museo del Chocolate. Although our museum guide was excellent, as you can tell from the picture, the students' favorite part was the tasting!

Astorga

In the last of our optional excursions with the students, we headed to the nearby towns of Astorga and Castrillo de los Polvazares. Astorga, known for its chocolate, and Castrillo, recognized for the preservation of its stone homes and unpaved streets will provide quite the dramatic contrast for students with next week's trip to the very cosmopolitan Madrid. Shown here is the famed Museo de los Caminos, designed by none other than the reknowed architect Gaudí himself.

MUSAC

Sunday afternoon, students had the opportunity to visit León's contemporary art museum, the MUSAC. Be sure to ask them about the exhibits and about the inspiration for the museum's very unique exterior.

Domingo, 10 de julio - Misa en la catedral

This past Sunday, I had a wonderful opportunity to meet with students at León's beautiful cathedral for a late-morning mass, in Spanish of course! Before mass, we stopped at Albany near by for traditional magdalenas and a café con leche.
