Lunes, el 13 de junio - Monday, June 13

¡Hola! After spending the weekend with their host families, the students found their way to the Academia Newton where our daily classes will be held. With our first group lunch at Casablanca (with shark, clams and other such novelties on the menu!) and a walking tour of León, everyone had a very busy afternoon that was topped of with a scoop of helado and a trip through the city´s famous gothic cathedral. Pictures will follow as the internet connection allows!

¡Saludos desde León!

¡Hola! First and foremost, I would like to thank all of the families for their cooperation and patience at the airport yesterday. I enjoyed speaking with all of you and your assistance with the check-in was most greatly appreciated and helped to expedite the process. Also, I wanted to let everyone know that we have arrived safely in León and the students are now spending their first afternoon/evening in Spain with their host families. Please check in frequently for blog updates and pictures!

At the airport...

June 9, 2011 (Thursday)

-For those of you with a connecting flight to Chicago, please make sure that your luggage will be checked through to Madrid. You can ask the attendant at your airline's counter to verify this for you.

-If you are in doubt or have questions about your luggage, review the Iberia luggage policy which was sent to you and your families. It is important to make sure that luggage is size/weight appropriate before leaving in order to avoid problems later at the Iberia counter.

Last minute ideas...

If you are looking for something to read, may I suggest...
- short stories by Gabriel Garcia Marquez, Borges or Rulfo
- Julia Alvarez also has some "young adult" fiction (in Spanish of course!)
- newspapers and magazines in Spanish (People, Hola! and others)
- your course manuals! :)

If you are looking for some music to download:
- Nelly Furtado
- Juanes
- Reik
- Quinta estación
- Oreja de van Gogh
- Maná

And of course, if you have any pre-departure questions, please do not hesitate to contact either Ron or myself!

Just over 24 hours... are you ready yet?

Students, please take a moment to make sure that you have EVERYTHING (clothes, cameras, adaptors, converters, money, passport, etc) prior to your arrival at O'Hare. Although there are plenty of stores in Spain, it will most definitely make your first few days easier if you have everything you need and that is familiar to you.

Departure is only FOUR days away!

Please feel free to email Ron or myself with any last minute questions or concerns that you may have. For those of you coming directly to the airport in Chicago on Thursday, remember that we are meeting at Terminal 3, not Terminal 5.
